How about October 12th? No better release date than at McVention on the anniversary of Rick's 70th birthday. With the author present to date and dedicate each book sold to: "insert your name", mighty Quo fan since the 70's!

That looks really interesting. Thanks for the link.
Title is Status Quo: Mighty Innovators of 70s Rock by Dr Andrew L Cope. (Pub by Routledge 2018)
I've found 2 publishing dates. Either 28th December 2018 or 4 Jan 2019.
But the bad news is that it will be between £92 - 115 in hardback only!!
Amazon have it listed for preorder at 115 but a couple of academic book sites at 92. Maybe the price will drop later on but that is a bit steep.

I was very interested in this publication, until I saw the price, but I should know by now, that anything involving Quo, will have my hopes raised and deflated very quickly

I've looked up the author again and discovered that he's also written a book about Black Sabbath. And its of a similar price to the Quo one. Though in 2010, when published it was £56 according to one of the 2 reviews. I think these books are aimed at academics rather than fans. And the publishers are hoping that libraries (those that are left) and universities/schools of music might buy them. Here's a link to his 1st book www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Sabbath-Heavy-Ashgate-Popular/dp/0754668819And here's a link to the author's personal website. He looks like a cool dude and he's a guitarist. andrewlcope.weebly.com

If he's using a publisher than he might not be able to set the price himself. But why the fuck don't they release an ebook at a reasonable price? It's like a man I know who wrote an academic book on Maritime war, the hardback is $181, but the kindle is $151. That makes no sense at all. Neither does this.

Actually ,Bill, when I buy your books for my kindle, they are so cheap to buy...do you make much money out of them? I almost feel obligated to buy the hard copy because I know you, so you get more money. How does it work dollarwise?

This sort of mega pricing seems to be for large books in short runs aimed at specific academic disciplines.
(I have met people who think the whole academic publishing thing is a ramp.)

Funny you should ask that...when you have a publisher like I do, it's a trade off. The books are much better...MUCH better. The covers are better, the edit is great, input on the narrative is Grade-A. Because I have the publisher that I do the books are way better and I probably sell at least twice as many as I otherwise would.
But the publisher gets 50% of the royalties. If it was a big house, they would get 90%! So yeah, I have to sell a LOT of books to make it worthwhile. Going forward I'll probably raise the price a bit so I can justify writing more full time, but they still won't ever exceed $4.99.
For my self-pubbed books, which are both short, $2.99 is plenty good enough. Amazon's rate is well known, for anything over $2.99 it's 70%. So yeah, even then you're talking about selling a lot of books to pay the bills.

Yes, precisely. They want to sell 500-1000 copies worldwide to libraries and universities. 1000 copies of a $150 book makes it worthwhile to publish.

I'm very tempted, as I'll get a discount through working at a University. Blackwell's Bookshop is just across the road, and always do good deals that way. Looks like a very interesting angle on the sociological aspects of the music of the day...

"The author combines a witty and easy style of writing with academic depth" It's written by Dr Seuss?
