So what, he's working off his resentment over 30 years later? I was just glad to have them back. I expect i would have been annoyed if I had gone abroad to see the "last concert", or something like that. Something odd about that "Alan Lancaster emigrated" bit ... Alan was living in Australia long before 1985 IIRR.
But nobody should take "last ever gig" seriously ... there's always a pension pot somewhere that needs topping up.

However, the LNOTE tour was one almighty cock up as now they’ve shot themselves in the foot with no one particularly interested at all anymore. Apart from Mr and Mrs Smith of course Cheers

Apart from Mr and Mrs Smith of course Cheers I don't remember a big hike in ticket prices for the EOTR tour. That was the only tour I went to multiple gigs. Unlike LNOTE which did seem more of a money spinner. That and a way to support Rick.

To answer the question no because it had only been the end of touring, as far as I was concerned, not the end of Quo. And there was Live Aid.
But by 86, I'd stopped thinking about Quo and I was very busy with other things. Without the easy internet access of today, I missed the relaunch and new image. Or if I did see it, I wiped the memory fast. And "moved on."

Betrayed. As Francis certainly was lying.

I couldn't believe they would really stop touring unless they actually split up, which I thought was possible as John had already been ousted & the recent releases were shite. I little imagined that the band would carry on in the form it did & once I'd seen them live I really wished it had been the complete End Of The Road - maybe we would have had the reunions a lot sooner if that had been the case. The new "Quo" just held no interest for me, even live, & the material they released made the albums with Pete look like classics, imo.

Duped? well, no, but surprised, yes. I remember being sorry that it was all over, as I'd had a ball, like everyone else, I suppose. I understood at the time that Alan was living abroad, but it was all part of the writing on the wall. I think I was more surprised than anything when 2 of them started touring again, but not surprised at the ensuing law suit. Mostly I'm glad they seem to have made it up now.

Angry, and seeing the new status quo as they labelled themselves was the last straw , never had nothing to do with them till 2013 .

Betrayed. As Francis certainly was lying. Aye. What was it he said right at the end after Bye Bye Johnny had finally finished?
"Goodnight, goodbye"
Aye right!!!

Speaking as a minor representative of the Smith clan, even Mr and Mrs Smith were wrong footed by that one. which is really bad news, as Mr and Mrs Smith are (and probably always were) their main customers. Never confuse your audience ...

It was an odd thing to do by Francis to make us think that they would continue to work together in the studio yet he had no intention of working with the band again, beyond The Wanderer etc. Can still remember the cheer that went up when he said that they would continue as a band.
I suppose he was a bit messed up at the time with Nicki Lauder and tequila?

I just felt very sad, something very good was done. Try not to think about it now, I never play the video anymore.

Can’t help but wonder what proportion of the fans called it a day that day / tour, irrespective of what came next. Even if Quo came back in 86 with AL, I think fans would still have been lost. And if musical direction had been poppy, perhaps the fan base decline would have been little different than what happened. But for fans like me, slightly too young for eotr, I was thrilled they came back.

I remember thinking at the time it was a stupid thing to do when they were so young, it was well known they weren't getting on but all they really needed was to take a year or maybe two off after Back to Back, no touring, recording or tv. It would have given them all the space and time apart they needed and with such a strong fan base they would still have been there after a break. It might also have given them a creative boost not having the recording treadmill. To everyone in the industry though it was obvious they would be back, especially after the Live Aid appearance.
