Ahh, 1979... I remember it like... well, I don't, but I do remember buying WYW when it came out. Naturally I skipped the title track as I'd heard the single, straight into Shady Lady. Fuck, it was fast, and Rossi's guitar sounding nasaly (pignose amp??) which I thought was bloody brilliant. Two absolute classics next which still sound great to this day, and I don't think I've ever played one without the other being played. Living On An Island... the outro to that song is immense, especially the remixed Now Hear This version. Come Rock With Me/Rockin' On: a lot of people don't like these, I think there all in all good solid tracks, and I especially like the guitar break towards the end of Rockin' On. The next two are nothing special, but still very good, and Runaway speeds along nicely, again with that squeaky guitar sound from Rossi. Lastly we have 6 minutes and 40 odd seconds of sheer brilliance. Lyrics, guitars, drums, bass, piano, harmonica... intro, riff, trademark Rick middle section and a fuckin' great outro. Possibly Quo's most complete song and definitely without a doubt in my top 5. Breaking Away is just pure class!!
Anyway, enough blabbling on, 10/10, and this shows that Pip can produce an album, with this also being my favourite album production.

After ballsing up the other WYW thread... I'll post it here again (where it belongs). Cheers QuocaQuola1WYW | 6/10 | Shady Lady | 9/10 | Who Asked You | 9/10 | Your Smiling Face | 7/10 | Living on an Island | 7/10 | Come Rock with Me/Rockin' On | 7/10 | Runaway | 6/10 | High Flyer | 9/10 | Breaking Away | 8/10 |
See Pip, you can produce a bloody good album! Why didn't you a job this good with the Rockin' album? Bastard. I always thought this album should have kicked off with Shady Lady. What an LP opener that could have been! This album made up for the lamish effort we got previously with the Heat album. As it is, it opens with what is probably the weakest track on either side. What follows is amazing. The musically powerful Shady Lady and lyrically powerful Who Asked You. Two tracks that show Quo off to their best in this period. Following this we have a great little rocker about Ricks infidelity. Side one finishes off with semi-acoustic Living on an Island. What a bloody great bass line. Lovely song. Side two kicks off with a what I can only describe as a classy double chugger, I've always liked this/these track(s). Next, how do I describe Runaway? Was it the first of many? Was it the first single that many Quo singles seemed to follow in method? A speedy little number that resembles quite a few singles from the 80's and 90's but this was possibly their first in this style, maybe. Isn't ironic that when the WYW album was released on CD they dumped High Flyer? Their loss. A fantastic track that's typical AL with great lyrics. The album finishes off with Breaking Away, another bloody good rocker with some great lyrics. I love it, especially the harp at the end. Skin me another, pass along the whisky and the coke!
Again, adding up the totals, gives an average of 7.5/10

Another good release - it seems to be an attempt to re-capture the earlier FF albums. However, despite some very good songs, its a case of almost but not quite there in getting to the same heights of the likes of OTL especially.
7.5/10

Agree with much of what has been said above. Breaking Away and Shady Lady the absolute highlights and Runaway the only real lowlight. Also love the outro to LOAI.
A return to form after the very poor IYCSTH but not as good as the glorious 5 (Piledriver through to BFY) so 8/10.
PS the LP was in the small "library" in our Music class at school in the early 80s. The Music teacher absolutely hated Quo and tried to encourage me to borrow pretentious prog crap like Yes and Jethro Tull but I would not be told and took it home at every opportunity (lived on a small island with no record shops !).

The album with "Who Asked You" on it. I could leave it there but... Though some complain about the half-finished nature of CRWM/RO - I always found the entry to side 2 a massive massive guitar sound - I still think it would be good live. It was not..... sorry!

It's interesting how the opinion of others differs from your own. I found IYCSTH outstanding and Runaway a great song.

9 . The last GOOD quo album . Rockin' on could easily have been played at the reunion gigs and it would have been a belter imo . Loved WYW when it was a single , as us youngins then loved singles .
Should be taking a few points of mind for the pathetic cover , the band should have been on the cover in denim once more .

Really strong effort, which has grown a lot for me during the years. I've found myself listen to this quite often the latest ten years (since the remaster without omitted songs was released). I more or less always skip the title track though. The last really great album from the Frantics. All in all 9/10
