Article in todays paper about another 'corporate' gig. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-42856794"The Belfast Telegraph reports on a father and daughter who know how to party, The paper reports that legendary rockers Status Quo flew to County Down to play a surprise birthday gig for one of Northern Ireland's top businessmen and his daughter. The band has returned to playing gigs since Rick Parfitt died in 2016. Francis Rossi of Status Quo Francis Rossi of Status Quo and four other members performed at the birthday party of the year at the Culloden The paper says Leslie Hughes, who founded Hughes Insurance and his daughter Nicola Thompson's birthday at the Culloden hotel was quite the shindig. As well as Status Quo, impressionist and comedian Rory Bremner also performed, posting a picture of the band in full swing. After the part Nicola Thompson tweeted that it had been a night she'd "never forget". What are the chances she gets "Whatever she Wants" for her birthday...."

They've played those sort of gigs for many years now. Difficult to understand - I know they've been almost completely ignored by punters at some of them. Must be painful. Not exactly the glory years, no.

Francis has always known (and said) that some people care about a band (any band) and some people don't, hence his remark about playing Wembley Stadium "There are 70,000 people in there who like you and 5 and a half million outside who don't give a ****." (Figures may be out of date.)
I'm sure the other bandmembers understand this just as well.
It's only fans who don't always get this.

It's only fans who don't always get this. Talk for yourself. Francis' often-peddled "argument" about the popularity of artists is flawed - like everything else to do with him. He takes it to the extreme by claiming there's a constant customer base of 100 million. Does anyone seriously believe that the majority of the country doesn't buy Ed Sheeran's music because they "hate" him? Does everyone in the country actually buy music?

The band used to say years ago about the time could come when they do cruise ships. Their saying was "sing up on the Captain's table please!"
Sounds like whoever booked them for that recent gig really wanted them and knew what their set could comprise. When they have bombed at a corporate you have to wonder what the person who booked them was thinking... Anniversary Waltz part 1 and 2 on rotation???
A band I played in had a good following/entourage playing our own stuff. We did a corporate Xmas gig out of the goodness of our little hearts to help the manager and we bombed. He just thought a band is a band I expect. Think they were expecting tunes such as Chic's Le Freak! Oh dear

For the sake of balance... I know that Alan played a cruise ship. Once. I think you're fairly safe on this board! Back on the official MB it was a different matter then. I think I started looking in regularly about Jan 2012, so at the end of the pre reunion era, and I was shocked at some of the vehemence posted towards FF supporters and Alan in particular.

I know exactly what you mean, Viv... And the joy of it all was that they all could be invited to the festive Humble Pie-extravaganza, but .. some of them just disappeared... No wonders there are wars in this world....
