Wouldn't be unlike Francis to tell someone that he did re-record parts given he was on coke at the time and the nature of the person he really was/is.

The only examples which i can think possibly might not have been Alan are some from the JS/NTL sessions, where i believe things were a bit messy and inconsistent with regards to studio attendance, and Rossi allegedly working closely with John Eden in the others absence. This would tie in with the period this guy was around.
I've always wondered if some of the bass lines are very un-Alan, both in their simplicity and muddy tone.
I'm sure Alan would have done something far more interesting on Take Me Away, for example. SBYBIL, Riverside, Never Too Late are others.
Compare them to Run To Mummy, which has a much more Alan-sounding bassline, both in style and sound.
And of course synthetic drumfills were added to SBYBIL and Riverside. Maybe Riverside's main drum part was a segment that Rossi looped?
Who knows? Just saying this guy might not be talking complete BS, but definitely guff, mostly!
There was also a rumour Andy Bown might have done some bass.

I don't think this is all that true. In fact I think this is the guy who kept turning up to Francis house with all kinds of wierd guitars. Including ones with holes in. You see that guitar in the TPAOY DVD hanging on the wall, Francis is also using it in the Who Asked You Vid. Had he held on to this guitar for 9 years and no-one saw it. I doubt it as Francis Tele had a hole in it back in 1970. So he didn't drill his Tele because he saw this "Holey guitar" in 1977. I seem to recall Francis told this guy to clear off in the end as he became a nusance. If he had any place at all in the music business now, he wouldn't be printing things like this even if they were true. I know the sound changed after Alan left, though it didn't bother me greatly, it was still audible. And Rick may have been multi fingered but he can't play a full bass fun (on a guitar it's not strung for) while playing his own runs as well. Somewhere deep inside this there may be a nanopune of twisted truth though, as we know that France re-recorded Alan's vocals on Old Rag Blues, and some other stuff (as mentioned). A warped interpretation of gossip? Who knows.

I'm sorry, but that's a lot of shite. Rossi played all the drums and the bass?....get tae fuck. As for Rick covering Nuff with his BB tuned guitar?.....total and utter bollocks. Anybody who plays guitar will know this.

If he did re-record the stuff like that bloke is saying safe to assume the songs if he had re-recorded would now sound like Modern Romance or margarita time

If he did re-record the stuff like that bloke is saying safe to assume the songs if he had re-recorded would now sound like Modern Romance or margarita time I know he did go behind Rick and Alan's back in 1983 and re record vocals and entire tracks using synth machines alright but, that's as obvious as the sky is blue.

Trouble is. They are a brilliant band, but nobody in the band seems to have brilliant "ears". If he wanted them to be a "hit factory" in the 80s he needed better advice than they got about tracks to record. I can't remember who spotted ITAN, but didn't one of the others say it would never work? And the same thing happened when Rick brought RAOTW in. Happy chance, but not often repeated.

I liked ITAN (the track) but in a way it didn't do them any favours as it gave the impression they were going in the right direction, whereas it was a one-off, just as much as Matchstick Men was.

If they had gone that direction, few could criticise them. New line up, new sound, new image, new chapter... Instead, live, they tried to cling on to the same old and, on record, Francis now that he had it all his own way, had no clue what to do
